A song in my heart
Yesterday a co-worker was singing a line from "there were 10 in the bed and the little one said, 'roll over'" and it reminded me of the songs we used to sing when we were kids. Today one of my Facebook friends posted "{sings} all around the cobbler's bench...." So this post is dedicated to the folk songs we used to sing.
"Down in the valley, valley so low. Hang your head over, hear the wind blow."
"You get a line, I'll get a pole, honey (honey). You get a line, I'll get a pole, babe (babe)." (We only sang the first verse.)
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray."
"Found a peanut, found a peanut, found a peanut just now ... "
We used to sing these songs and others that I can't recall right now - usually when we were on road trips. I think part of the reason I didn't do this much with my kids is that we didn't always have a car and therefore didn't go places. It was part of what we did on the way to someplace else.
I'm going to ask my parents where they learned the songs and if there are any other songs they remember.
