A moving story: Part 5

I think my head is going to explode.

I've had a headache and stiff neck for a few days. It's all on the right side of my head. I thought maybe it was from how I've been sleeping - I have a body pillow crossways on my bed and sleep on my side with my ribs on that, and with my head on a regular pillow.

Anyway, now it's from a phone call.

The owner of the house called. She's upset because we aren't out today (or, to be honest, nearly ready to be out). But I thought she knew that. I've been trying to do all the packing mostly by myself. (Cayla would be upset with me for saying that, but really? she's done most of her work in her room and that isn't as ready as she thinks it is.)

So now I'm trying to kick it up into high gear, to get as much stuff in storage as possible. But I have to work today, so that limits how much time I can put into it today.

Amanda came out of her room and said she was up till 6 a.m., so she's going to take a nap. I'm pretty sure Cayla is on her laptop. So, although I told the girls I can't do this by myself, it looks like I'm going to have to do this by myself.

I went so far as to ask Kent to ask his dad to loan me money to be able to move in. I'm pretty sure what the answer will be, and I'm not even going to ask my dad, as he already told me he doesn't have money for himself.

So it looks like we'll be living in somebody's basement for awhile, and I'm going to have to call around to the vets in the area to see if anyone is willing to put our cats to sleep, as I won't put them out and the shelter is full. (There's even an article in today's paper about it.) But it's Saturday and most vets are closed and the one I called isn't willing to do that.

Is it any wonder my head feels like it's going to explode?

Also, I've got some giveaways starting soon (that I'm participating in) and I've got to schedule posts on Facebook for the current ones ... I'll work on that tonight after I get home from work.

I don't think this is what I meant when I prayed that the way would be smoothed for us to move where Heavenly Father wants us to move ... maybe I need to work on how I phrase things.

Update: We have to be out Monday.

Sodastream giveaway

SODASTREAM GIVEAWAY

My family drinks a lot of soda and soda is expensive. I find myself buying one to three 12-packs (currently $4.98 each) a week for the girls, and 2-liters (currently $1.28 each) for me and I'm kind of concerned about the effect this is having on our bodies as well as my budget.

Sodastream soda works out to about 25 cents per can of soda.

You want to know if the sodas taste good. Yes, it taste just like the soda you buy in the store. There are few differences though, There are fewer calories and less sugar in Sodastream sodas. Plus, the soda flavors don't have any high-fructose corn syrup in the regular flavors, and no aspartame in the diet flavors. Sparkling Naturals doesn't have artificial flavors, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners or any preservatives.

Each sodamix is enough to make 12 liters of drink, each sparkling naturals contains enough syrup to make 6 liters of drink, each bottle of MyWater Flavor Essence will flavor about 20 liters of water, you only need half a teaspoon for each liter you make of this! Mixer bottles start around $4.99 and go up to $9.99, depending on the size of the bottle and the flavoring.

With Sodastream is you don't need electricity or batteries to work. This makes it perfect to use anywhere you need it. You don't have to worry about plugging it in on the counter or kitchen table. You can use it where it's most convenient for you.

Because my family is really bad about clutter, I finally told my daughters that instead of trying to keep cans and bottles and redeem them, we should throw them away. That's like throwing nickels in the garbage, but I felt it was necessary as a temporary measure to keep clutter down. With Sodastream, you don't have to deal with redeeming containers - you just use and reuse the same containers. That also means it takes up less space in  your cupboard and you don't have to lug sodas from the store. You can make a fresh soda in seconds anytime you want.

And while you can order Sodastream soda makers and supplies from the company website, they encourage you to shop locally, to save shipping costs.

Here's a video to show how easy it is to use:

A moving story: Part 4

And part of the reason I haven't been posting much lately.

So, I looked at a couple of apartments on Friday. I prefer one for some reasons and the other for other reasons, but it boils down to the one apartment, although more expensive, is close to the high school and has a garage. In this town, they will tow you if you are parked on the street after a snowstorm.

The one apartment - I looked at a below-ground apartment, but the one coming available has the same floor plan but flipped. It has 2 bedrooms, tiny bathroom, large living room, and kitchen with dining area (and dishwasher!) but no windows (I like looking out the window while doing dishes, but there is a dishwasher). That's the one close to the high school. I think there are 6 or 8 apartments, so lots of close neighbors. And coin-op washer and dryer.

The other one is a two-story close to Fareway. (Kid, I'm out of (whatever), run over to Fareway, will you?) The 2-bedroom apartment is on the first floor, but there are steps up. The front steps are not even heights, and the first one is exceptionally tall. Mom would have to come in the side steps, but to do that, she would have to go up the driveway, around a barrier, and in the side door, then up about four (?) steps. There is original woodwork, a funky-shaped kitchen with separate cooktop and oven and with a window over the sink, a fireplace in the living room and a laundry in the basement that is not coin-op but is skeevy, as Cayla would say.

The rental agency didn't call me back about the rent on the second apartment, but someone had told me earlier they thought it was $495, which is $30 less than the one close to the high school. And many places charge $30 for a garage, so that kind of makes up for that.

There are other places for rent in the area around the high school, and I suppose I should investigate more. But I'm so tired of looking and packing and tossing away my old crap that I just want it to be over with. And Tonya (landlady) is here, wanting to work on the house but we are in the way.

On the bright side, Tonya helped me the other day, packing and purging, and due to a truck breaking down, the company I got the roll-off from told me I could keep it until Monday for no extra charge. So I got some more work done yesterday on packing and purging. I have a system now, but it really requires another person to do the packing while I sort and purge stuff, and I didn't have any helpers yesterday. So we'll see how it goes now that Cayla is back from camp.

Rollin', rollin', rollin'

Does anybody remember the theme music to the show "Rawhide?" I don't remember watching it, but I do remember the music.

The reason for this post title is that my car rolled over to 240,000 miles today. I think it had about 228k when I bought it, and I'm going to need it to run until at least next March, when I get my next tax refund. Here's hoping'.

It was an errand-running day. Mom had called me at work last night to ask me to get her groceries - as it ended up she only wanted a prescription picked up, a salad from Fazoli's and some ice cream.

Both of my girls needed prescriptions picked up (Amanda's is on order and should be in on Monday). We needed to redeem cans for cash (we got almost $18, yay!), stop at the post office and apparently drive all over town a couple of times.

Unplanned: We stopped at The Key on Central to get Cayla a pair of jeans - she's got camp next week; we also stopped at a yard sale/grill out at Beacon of Hope, where I paid $3 for a pork burger with bacon, beans with more bacon, chips and a soda; turned back when I realized I forgot to look for a mini-snake thing for the kitchen sink that isn't draining and also briefly stopped at Racing Unlimited because Cayla has been bugging about her getting a moped. (I'm not in favor - I'd rather she (or more likely I) spend the money on a used car that can be driven in all kinds of weather, all year round. They are currently out of mopeds, so no hurry.

When we finally got home, I played a little Kingdom of Loathing and applied for the blogger opportunity that I'm so not going to get ... but if the people at Kia see this, I really would like to try one out (HINT!).

I tried using the mini-snake thing, but it's not long enough unless we bail more water out of the sink, so I'll try when I get home from work, if Amanda will empty the sinks out for me. And now it's time to go to work, when a nap would be the nicest thing ever. Yawn!

A moving story: Part 3 - where? what? how? when?

Not to make this sound like a complain-fest, but we're so behind.

I haven't found a place to live.
Amanda's birth certificate hasn't arrived.
After the birth certificate arrives, we need to get her a state-issued photo ID.
One she has a birth certificate and ID, we can apply for housing assistance and also apply at the rental agency (or other rental agencies).
And I still have to scrounge up the money for the first month's rent and deposit.

In addition, we have to find a solution for the cat situation, as it appears nobody will rent to cat owners. And I rented a roll-off trash bin, which arrived yesterday but has one lonely bag of trash in it.

The plan is to do a major purging and only take what we really want to keep.

I have boxes - about 4 feet wide, 6 feet long and 3 feet high stacked - that have basically been there since we moved in this house. I've gone through some of them and restacked them a couple of times in the last (nearly) four years. But I'm pretty sure we can get rid of most of the stuff.

And I've got to keep working. I can't afford to take much time off, especially since I can't arrange a move-in date when I don't have a place yet.

Cayla has Diva Tech next Monday-Wednesday and girls camp the following Monday through Saturday. Amanda is supposed to start summer school next Friday, which runs nearly to the end of the month. I have Tuesday and Wednesday off, but I don't know how much we'll get done.

My landlady is supposed to be coming today sometime, but I'll be at work. It's a 13 1/2 hour drive from where she lives, so I'm hoping she won't be at the house tonight - or maybe not until I get home (1045-ish).

Is it time to panic yet?
