$200 Amazon Blast giveaway

A brand new giveaway is now open for all our valued readers! Get a chance to win $200 Amazon Gift Card. Only one lucky winner will be chosen on August 15, 2012.

You can choose to use the gift card in so many ways. I have a Kindle Fire and download a lot of free books, but there are a lot of books I want but can't afford right now. You can buy actual books, as well. They sell software and games for computers and game systems, as well as computers and game systems to use the software on.

One of my favorite kitchen tools is the Wilton Silicone Spoon Scraper. It's supposed to be used for scraping the batter out of the bowl when you bake, but I use it for stirring things when I cook. I use it all the time. And it's available on Amazon.com, along with a million other things you could choose from if you win.

This giveaway is open worldwide. There are daily entries so keep on visiting this post to earn the bonuses for more chances of winning. Good luck.

A moving story: Part 8

Well, here we are. Or some of us, anyway.

The bishop made arrangements for people to help us move the last of the stuff from the house, plus the mattresses he had in his commercial building, to the apartment. They were to be at the house at 9 a.m.

Cayla had an appointment at 9:30, so we rushed out there, stayed for a few minutes and then went to her appointment. After the appointment, we went to the apartment, where the stuff from the house had been unloaded. We were leaving to go to the library to drop off my overdue (they had been packed!) library books when here come the helpers again. They had gone to the bishop's commercial building and brought our stuff. So Cayla and I stayed to help bring stuff in.

I made a pizza for the missionaries, but it didn't turn out right and I couldn't figure it out. (Amanda realized later that night that the Pizzazz Plus was set on top only, not dual. Duh!

I went to the library, dropped off the books and picked out three DVD sets ("Chuck," "Downtown Abbey" and "Doctor Who" Season 6 part 1), then took Cayla to my niece's place.

I came back to the apartment and took a nap for 40 minutes, grabbed my stuff for a shower and to change into, plus lunch, and went to Mom's for my shower, as the apartment shower couldn't work (it's working now).

Then I went to work.

After work, I went home, where Amanda had started a pizza. We cooked it longer than usual, but the bottom didn't cook. Amanda figured out the problem and I set it for bottom only for a few minutes, then we ate it anyway.

I slept in Cayla's bed, as she was still at Jessica's and I don't have a bed yet. (I decided not to bring the double bed from the house, so I can get a twin.)

This morning, Amanda informed me that I snore. A lot.

I'll be sleeping in my own room tonight ...

And I need to say - I could not have done this by myself. Cayla helped a lot, although when she thought she was done, I didn't think she was done. But we had help from outside our family and I am truly grateful for that. I can move boxes, even some heavy ones, although I pay for it later with pain and stiffness. But the furniture would have been impossible.

I still have stuff in storage, but it's all stuff that Cayla and I put there. The storage agreement calls for a 30-day notice before giving up the space, so since the rent is due this week, I will have to pay another month anyway. I'll work on getting the stuff that is in the apartment put in place properly, as much as possible (I need more bookcases!) before bringing more stuff here.

And the "some of us" part from the first paragraph? Cayla was supposed to leave this morning (5:30 a.m.!) for youth conference in another part of the state. I haven't checked to make sure that she made it, but since I didn't get a phone call at 5 a.m., I'm guessing that she did.

A moving story: Part 7

How long and drawn-out is this story? Well, it's not over yet ...

But at 4 p.m. today, we sign the lease on the new apartment. Yay!

Then comes the moving-in part, and I'm still not done with the house we're in. So lots of work left to do.

I'm trying to move up the date for taking the cats to the shelter in Des Moines to tomorrow instead of Saturday, so maybe if people can help on Saturday, we can move in then. Otherwise, I'll work on the house Friday morning and take the cats on Saturday and we'll move in next week whenever we can get helpers.

Part of my stuff is in a rented storage space, part is in storage in a commercial building owned by someone at church and there's still stuff at the house.

Also, all this moving stuff has gotten me inspired to make a move with this blog that I have wanted to do for some time.

I'm going to encourage people to go to one of my other blogs: A Wiser Steward. I haven't been actively updating that one, but it's time. This blog started as my personal blog, a place where I can update friends and family, and rant and rave if I want.

A Wiser Steward is about making changes in my life, in different areas. I hope that these changes inspire other people to make changes in their lives, as well. I will start posting over there and start having giveaways over there, as well.

You are all welcome to continue to come to Carol's Random Babble, where I occasionally have witty or amusing things to say. Maybe you read this and think "at least my life isn't that bad." Or maybe you don't actually read this blog, but just follow on Facebook for the giveaways.

Whatever the reason, this blog will continue to be public, but my public focus will shift to A Wiser Steward.

iPad giveaway

It's another exciting giveaway! This time one lucky winner will receive a third generation 16 GB iPad.

I would love one of these - I do have a Kindle Fire, but, while I am really happy with my Fire, an iPad would probably blow it away.

Mom to Bed by 8, the Iowa-Mom is proud to present the The New iPad Giveaway Event, sponsored by BeeSavy.

BeeSavy is the first website to combine comparison shopping with coupons, cash back discounts and referral cash back.

Compare prices on millions of products from hundreds of trusted online stores.

No matter where you shop or what you're buying, you'll save $:

I know what I want... but where should I buy it? Search for any product in BeeSavy's search engine. BeeSavy show you all the stores selling that product along with the total price at each of those stores. The total price includes the list price, tax and shipping costs, cash back discount, and coupon savings.

I already know where I'm shopping... how do I save $? Even for you brand-loyal shoppers, you can save money every time you shop at your favorite stores. Click the Shop By Store button in the top right to get started. First, check for coupons at your favorite store. Next, click through to your favorite store and make a purchase. When you shop online through BeeSavy, you will earn a cash back discount. Your cash back discount will post to your BeeSavy account within 1-4 days. BeeSavy will send you a check or deposit your cash back into your PayPal account once your balance reaches $10.

I don't know what I want... Now what? You can browse popular products by clicking the Shop by Category button in the top left. You will see the most popular products in hundreds of different categories.

Other BeeSavy benefits for online shoppers:

Trusted retailers only! Unlike other comparison shopping websites, BeeSavy carefully chooses each and every one of its stores to ensure a safe and secure shopping experience. If you ever have a bad experience with a BeeSavy store, please let them know right away.

Feeling generous? Donate your savings to a charity. When you request a cash back payment, BeeSavy gives you the option to donate a portion or all of your cash back to a charity. Just choose a charity and how much you want to donate and they'll take care of the rest!

Love BeeSavy? Tell your friends and get referral cash back forever. Tell a friend about BeeSavy and you will earn a 40% commission on all of their cash back forever. There is no limit to how many friends you can refer! They even pay you a 10% commission on all of their referrals up to seven levels deep! So this could add up quickly for those of you who like sharing a great deal with others.

BeeSavy benefits for online retailers:

It's a win-win-win. With most forms of marketing, online retailers must pay upfront with no guarantee of results; however, with cost-per-sale marketing, online retailers only pay BeeSavy when it generates a sale. Online retailers choose a commission rate that fits within their profit margin, thereby ensuring a positive return on their marketing dollars. By giving most of this commission to the purchasing customer as a cash back rebate, BeeSavy utilizes this online retailer marketing method to save its customers money that traditional comparison shopping websites cannot match (due to their cost-per-click revenue model).

One lucky winner will receive an iPad 3rd Generation, 16GB Unit from BeeSavy!

A moving story: Part 6

I had another title for this but it fell out of my head ...

Stressful couple of days - I put a deposit on an apartment yesterday but I won't know until sometime today if we get the apartment. Most of our stuff is moved out into two different storage places - one of which I have no control over ...

And I had to call the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Des Moines - my sister will drive me there on Saturday (my next available day that they are open) to relinquish our girl kitties. I am crying.

Amanda and I are sleeping here one last night, then we'll spend a few days at my mom's if we don't get the apartment I put the deposit on. We are allowed 10 days there per person per year.

(Later) I suddenly realized that I had to get something mailed out today by 1 p.m., so I rushed into town to take care of it. I'm not crying now, but I imagine I will again. This whole situation is a bucket of stress and I'm carrying a measuring cup.

I keep praying that the way will be smoothed for us to go where the Lord wants us to go, and that we'll know the right path. Some things seem like the way is being smoothed, but others seem like people are throwing thorns on the ground ...

(Later) I called the property management agency and they agreed to accept us for that apartment. I set up an appointment to sign the lease next Tuesday, but I'm going to call on Thursday to move that up. The sooner we can start moving our stuff in, the better. Yay!
